A Night On The Farm | Devlog 2

Welcome to the second blog post for A Night On The Farm, a horror/mystery game coming to Steam (PC) in March 2024. In this post I want to talk about where the game is at in development, and why I pushed the release date back from December 2023 to March 2024. (There’s also a new trailer for the game, embedded above!)

I’m happy to announce that the MVP (minimum viable product) for A Night On The Farm has been achieved! The game can be played from beginning to end, and is currently in a “Closed Beta”, where it’s undergoing testing and feedback from players other than myself.

Thankfully, feedback on the game has been generally positive so far, with high marks being given to the atmosphere, sound design, and lore. However, feedback also indicates that the game feels a bit too short, a bit too linear, and it could use an extra scare or two as well.

With this new information, I had some difficult decisions to make. Essentially, do I release an “OK” game in December of one of the biggest years in gaming, where it’ll likely get buried by the multitude of amazing releases people are clamoring for this holiday season, or do I spend an extra couple of months addressing the game’s issues, which include taking the opportunity to expand its core content in meaningful ways? Ultimately, I want A Night On The Farm to be as memorable as possible, and thankfully, I have enough wiggle room to expand and polish the game some more, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

TLDR: A Night On The Farm is coming along well, and is nearly complete, but it needs a little more time in the oven, and therefore its new release date is March 2024. Oh yeah, I should also add— the game’s plot has changed significantly since the August blog post. It no longer “revolves around a couple who drive out to visit some long-time friends at their new house”. While I won’t spoil the new story details before release, you can check out the game’s latest trailer (at the top of the page), which includes some voice-over from one of its main characters.

That about does it for now. Thanks for checking out the blog and please look forward to more updates on the game in the coming weeks and months as it gets close and closer to release. Stay spooky!
